I've basically rebuilt the electrical system on my Z06, torn out what seems to be miles of excess or unneeded wire, and countless harnesses.  While this isn't something for the meek or feint-hearted, it's key for those who may be rebuilding or tearing down or converting a C5 for race use.

<sigh>

If it's not one thing, it's another.  Or, in this case . . . . 10 anothers.

"Gee, why won't this thing idle . . . . better pull the valve covers and get a looksee."  Exhaust valves 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 all look like they're got broken springs.  Intake valve springs 3, 5, 6 all look like they're busted as well.

Great.

At last count, the car was a "moderately modified" '02 Z06.  It . . . uhh . . . I think passed "moderately modified" a little bit ago.  Way too many hits from the go-fast crack pipe for my own good, I think.
I think the chassis is mostly the same still.  While the passenger floor panels are fairly "stock", they've been drilled, filled, and reinforced in places.  The rear compartment has been hacked and rebuilt in spots.  Interior is virtually non-existant.

It's not to say that I can't or don't drive the thing on the street when it's on R's, but it's just for the best if I don't.  For the inevitable moron who thinks this means I don't drive it on the street because I don't want to drive fast . . . . . try driving a car that's set up to run at speed in a corner 7x24, with zero ground clearance.  Speed bumps and driveways are nearly impossible to navigate.

They call it a fast-track towards getting a competition license – Two solid days of action adding to a total of six hours of time on-track.  Open lapping sessions, followed by rolling starts, followed by actual wheel-to-wheel races – all in rapid succession, with mere minutes between sessions.  “Bring a crew member” they say, “because you won’t have time to work on your car.

This past weekend, I attended SCCA’s CalClub region Super School as the sure-fire way to get my novice license.  True to form, nothing went right the first time . . . . and yeah, I probably should have had someone to crew for me.  Read on, and feel my pain.

Okay, so with not nearly enough time, and too much work.

Cage -- done.  Needs paint . . . . but what doesn't nowdays.

Fascia -- done.  Pretty solid on its own, but probably needs some body filler to make it look "factory".

Splitter -- .....well, it's mounted.  Needs work, since it flexes too much.  Kerry at ACP knew exactly what the problem was -- undertray is on it's way to solve it.

Wing -- Done.  There's some fiberglass work that I need to finish up to really seal everything up, and whatnot . . . but thats more cleanup work.

Electrical -- Done.  Hell, the car even starts.

Maintenance work -- ...... ongoing.  Car needs paint, and I need to get numbers back on.  Need to clean things up on the interior, exterior, etc . . . . it'll probably pass 50/50.

No, there's no pics yet.  Yes, there will be.   No, I don't know when.
